Saturday STEAM Academy Spring 2024 - "FREE"

Application due date for the program is February 21st, 2024.

The Center for College Access and Success at Northeastern Illinois University is offering High School students the opportunity to apply for the Saturday STEAM Academy Spring 2024 as part of their STEAM Pathways Initiative programs.

Accepted students will have the chance to participate in sessions focused on app development and microcontroller programming, which will serve as tools for their Internet of Things research projects centered around climate and the environment. Additionally, students will take part in workshops aimed at college readiness, personal development experiences, and collaborative projects with students from both Chicago and Latin America.

The sessions are scheduled to occur every Saturday between February 24th, 2024 and May 11th, 2024. These sessions will take place at the El Centro campus of Northeastern Illinois University from 9am to 2pm. There will be two Saturdays each month where participants will attend in-person, while the other two Saturdays will be conducted online. 

Students who have been chosen to participate will receive communication regarding all the necessary details by February 22nd.

Eligibility for Students:

  • Students currently enrolled at Morton Freshman Center, Morton East, and Morton West High Schools.
  • Students who are the first in their family to plan on completing a college degree.
  • Students who have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics.

Benefits for Selected Students:

  • Transportation provided from school to Northeastern Illinois University El Centro campus.
  • Certificate of participation awarded.
  • Eligibility for our 6-week summer program in 2024.
  • Eligibility for national STEM leadership trips.

There are two options available for the program. The first option is entirely in English, while the second option is our global program that offers instruction in Spanish. Additionally, students have the opportunity to collaborate virtually with students from Latin America.
