Brits are feeling the blues more now than in pre-pandemic times, according to The Economist. This emotional downturn is particularly apparent among women, with YouGov's weekly mood tracker revealing that females consistently report higher levels of stress and sadness. Despite progress in conversations around equality at home and in the workplace, the brunt of domestic labour still falls on women. This includes managing food and family shopping. Our emotions play a significant role in shaping our purchasing decisions and eating habits. So, what cultural shifts can brands tap into given our collective low mood? Here are some thoughts: ๐ฎ Gamification: Injecting fun and playfulness into everyday activities can foster brand loyalty by providing a much-needed escape from reality. ๐ฝ๏ธ Nostalgia: The recent success of Barbie at the box office shows our yearning for the comforts of childhood. Social media is flooded with comforting food recipes and tutorials from joyful home cooks. ๐ The Lipstick Effect: With the rising cost of dining out, many are opting to elevate their home-cooked meals. Food and drink offer a relatively affordable way to add a touch of luxury to our weeks, similar to the lockdown era when caviar sales soared. ๐คฃ Comedy: TikTok is a testament to our need for laughter, with its Entertainment category racking up almost 4,000 billion views under #funny. What are your thoughts? Have you picked up on any other cultural shifts in response to our national mood? #marketing #thoughts #culture

Gen Z is already reshaping consumer and employee trends. And as the largest incoming generation -- and one with digital access at such a young age -- there's a reason we look to this cohort to get a better glimpse at the future of technology, business, social issue engagement, and more. This article from EY is from the perspective of why corporate boards should care about #GenZ, but its content is relevant in a much broader sense. Take these three distinctly Gen Z behaviors, for example: 1. Combining physical and virtual realities. 2. Seeking authenticity through transparency. 3. Taking a pragmatic approach to wellness and mental health. All of these behaviors are already having an impact on companies, through how this generation uses and interacts with technology, how they communicate, who/what they're loyal to, how they work, and more. It's a great read for anyone wanting to understand how Gen Zers think and approach life: https://lnkd.in/g88v5ykF #business #work #technology #content #mentalhealth #wellness #future #engagement #digital

CEO and Founder of All Terrain | Brand Strategy and Experiential Marketing Leader | ECC board member | PAWS Chair | 100 Women To KNOW in America by J.P. Morgan Chase 2024
๐ซDuring the most recent PGN event, I joined Pinnacle Global Network founder Allison Maslan and renowned fitness content creator Natalie Jill at lunch. Natalie had just given a great talk about social media. She shared how she started from nothing (a rock bottom moment, she explained) and built an incredible health and wellness business based on a very authentic and focused purpose: to help Midlife women redefine healthy aging. Why did she succeed? Her story was real and aspirational; other people saw themselves in her journey. Her advice to people using social media for their business is: โจBe clear with your purpose, and know the story you want to tell and to whom. โจDonโt be tone-deaf to your audience. โจMake the posts visually appealing. There was a lot more to her talk, but Natalie confirmed that we all use social media for connection and awareness in some way. So, ensure you understand why youโre using it and what you want in return. #SocialMediaย #AuthenticityWins #PurposefulContentย #BusinessTips

Something made me stop & think for a second yesterday. I just asked a friend โHow was your day?โ and the answer was โIโm so tired.โ To put this into context: she just turned 30, not a Mom, has a good job, arrives home every day by 5pm, lives healthy, goes for a run every day. ๐ฉท And this exact same answer came from another friend, who is a PT, lives super healthy, exercising every day, age 35, no kids: โIโm so tired.โ ๐ This made me think. Did you realise, this is the most common answer we get to Britainโs favourite question: โHOW ARE YOU?โ ๐ณ And then I started to think what my own answer was when last time I was asked this question. Guess what, ofc I was โso tiredโ. ๐ I find this topic so interesting to dig deeper and figure out whatโs going on with Millenials & Gen Z??? ๐กShare your thoughts in the comments ๐ค ๐ญ โMaybe one of the answers: โResearchers say younger generations deal with an ongoing wealth inequality. In a 2023 Deloitte survey, nearly half of Gen Zs and four in 10 millennials said they feel stressed all or most of the time.โ #selfcare #worklifebalance #genz #healthawareness
