Petition: STOP Zoning Changes Allowing Chick-fil-A Construction in Newtown
I am writing on behalf of nearly 800 Newtown area residents who have expressed deep concerns
via a petition regarding the proposed Chick-fil-A on Newtown-Yardley Road and Upper Silver Lake
Road. This development, alarmingly close to residential areas, requires several variances that we
believe are not in the best interest of our community.
The introduction of a high-volume fast food drive-thru restaurant in such proximity to a residential
development is unsuitable and risks fundamentally altering the character of our neighborhood.
Current infrastructure is already inadequate for existing traffic, which is often backed up on
Newtown-Yardley Road approaching the Newtown Bypass. The added congestion from this
development, traffic from the soon-to-be-built Wawa, and potential future developments will lead
to unbearable traffic conditions and significant safety issues.
In light of these factors and pursuant to Section 910.2 of the PA Municipal Planning Code, which
mandates that variances should not "alter the essential character of the neighborhood or district,"
we urge the Newtown Board of Supervisors to strongly oppose the requested zoning changes
and variances. Our community’s character, safety, and quality of life are at stake.
