Must Love Demons: A MM Grumpy-Sunshine Fantasy Romance (Much Ado About Demons) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,021 ratings

You’d think being magically tethered to the hottest warden in all Verona wouldn’t be a hardship.

You’d be wrong.

Incubus
Nico Azertiran has his dream job as a cherub-in-training. It’s the perfect position for a lust demon who’s more interested in happily-ever-afters than one-night stands. Or it would be, if he didn’t keep screwing it up. When a new cherub gadget misfires, Nico is left trussed to Verona’s most eligible warden, the incredibly grumpy, Sir Flame.

Flambeau Illume has a job to do. Someone’s murdering Verona’s rich and famous, and Sir Flame’s hot on the killer’s trail . . . until he has the misfortune to get magically lassoed to the most infuriating incubus he’s ever had the displeasure to meet. Except, maybe Nico isn’t so terribly awful. But how can he solve his case and keep Nico safe at the same time? Especially when the sweet demon seems to have a bullseye on his back.

Together they need to solve the crime, stay alive, and—if their luck changes—maybe even fall in love. Easy, right?

Must Love Demonsis a grumpy-sunshine, forced proximity MM romance with a cinnamon roll of an incubus and a grumpy phoenix shifter who find their happily-ever-after. This book is part of the Much Ado about Demons series and contains a lariat of love, cherubs who aren’t so cherubic, and a naughty demon tail with a mind of its own.

Mischief, Magic, and Murder . . . That's a Maslow!

If you're looking for comedy, fantasy, or dead bodies in your romances (sometimes all three at once!), I'm your gal. I'm also a. . . gasp!. . . extroverted writer. It seems counterintuitive that as someone who is energized by people, I spend most of my time alone. Yet, that's the case. And I don't mind.

Mostly.

If I get writer's block or start to go a little stir crazy, I head out to a coffee shop, a restaurant, a friend's place--anywhere to fill up my need for human contact. It also helps that I spend a lot of time with the voices in my head. Some of them are really quite opinionated.

I love writing gay romance because I'm a sap for a happy ending, and I believe everyone—regardless of orientation—should be able to find books that have them. And if that romance comes with a dash of mischief, magic, or murder, all the better.

I believe that life is for living, kindness is contagious, and a good book makes the world a better place.

This book was soooo good. I loved Nico and Flame. I have a serious soft spot for big strong guys who look all intimidating but are actually cuddly teddy bears and have big squishy marshmallow centers. This fits Nico to a tee. I also love multi-author series. Nico is an incubus that has been kicked out of his legion because he doesn’t have lust magic. Instead, he has love magic. And no demon really wants to inspire love...they are having too much fun to settle down. All of this makes him the odd incubus out. All he wants is a job where he can be himself and use his power to help others find true love and make a home and life for himself. All Flame wants is the First Warden job and to get the cupids to leave him the **&^ alone! As a phoenix shifter and a Warden, Nico doesn’t have time for anything as foolish as love and companionship. After all, he is a phoenix and his health and life resets every morning, leaving no room for feelings. Been there, done that, broke someone else’s heart in the process. And now he is stuck with an infuriatingly naive incubus, tied together by a cupid experiment gone awry with no antidote immediately available. This is all very inconvenient, especially when you have a string of murders to solve. Flame keeps everyone at a distance and almost enjoys making others afraid of him. Nico just wants to be friendly and make others happy. Two people couldn’t be more opposite than this unlikely pair and it made this book such a fun romp! Yes there is danger and a mystery to solve. There are also cupid shenanigans and embarrassing moments as two people try to figure out how to cope with being literally tied together for several days. I think I have hearts in my eyes just thinking about these two, especially Nico and all of his sweetness that nothing seems to dim. Such a fun book!! These characters were simply stunning and the world was great. We got more of a glimpse inside the workings of the mysterious Magic Emporium too which was neat. All in all, a highly enjoyable book and one I would read again and again!

“Would murdering the damnable creature undo this curse? He sighed. His boss wouldn’t approve. Worst of all, he might have to drag a seven-foot-tall corpse around with him.”

    ——

May 2023. A fantasy MM romance mystery between a sweet incubus whose magic helps people fall in love instead of stirring up Lust and a grumpy workaholic officer who end up literally stuck together and end up working together to investigate a mysterious death and attacks.

This was a fun and fast-paced story in a fantasy world, with a forced-proximity grump x sunshine dynamic that was light and charming. Had an engaging mystery, a bit of action and danger, a few steamy scenes, plenty of sweetness, and a lot of humor and fun. Looking forward to more in the series; this was the first book in it.

Read on Kindle Unlimited. Same author as the last series I read about the shifters in a magic Baltimore, but this is in a fantasy world. So far both series have been a hit, so I’ll check out her third series on KU soon I’m sure.

also includes a silly love poem from a lovestruck dwarf who struggles with iambic pentameter:
    “Y-our hai-ry fe-et as-toun-d me,
    T-oe su-ck-ing my n-ew hob-by
    I like y-our new dag-ger, so swi-ft
    And y-our be-ard gl-ows with the bl-ood of y-our d-amn-ed en-e-m-y
    Ah, love, ain’t it gr-and?
    Let-’s f-ight.”

“Must Love Demons” by Meghan Maslow. Book 1 in what will be a series.

I love this premise: a 7ft tall “love” incubus who’s been rejected by his species, and trying to make a career with cupids— and a 5.5ft tall phoenix cop whose healing fire makes him lose his feelings every night.

Nico, as an incubus who helps creatures find their soulmate, has a lot of cool thoughts about “consent” in a world where a cupid could hit you with an arrow and force you into “love” with the closest single person.

Nico & Flame make a great team, and the larger mystery they are working on is a cool exploration of their society and its history.

(I kind of wish we could see the story for the love match that happens at the end.)

Oh! This was such an amazing story! A rich world, fascinating characters, and a really beautiful slow build love story! There is a mystery that is well paced and really intriguing that brings everything together but also manages to take a few unexpected turns that really change things for the course of the story. Amazing from start to finish!

Nico is first seen in the little prequel story (In Fair Verona) which is a great place to read about his particular unusual abilities. Seeing him now working as a cherub and it not being at all as expected, not really about live at all, is quite sad. When the forced haphazard work of the cherubs leaves him bound to one of the sternest detectives, Flame, it is clear things have gone horribly awry. Flame is so against love, which is what Nico is all about, but there is something else there that is wounded and unusual. Learning about what holds Flame back as well as the past that keeps Nico from moving forward shows new sides to them. It also reveals how well they suit each other. At the same time, further deaths drive them to seek out what is happening in the case and the steady mounting threats towards Nico show that it will be an uphill battle.

The story is this is very well done and absolute completed with no cliffhanger, but it lends itself to well to a series! As with anything Maslow had written there is a rich and detailed world with multiple complex characters that have more story to tell. Even Nico and Flame have so much ahead of them that would be amazing to read! Absolutely fantastic book and would come back to read a story from this world anytime!

Loved this series! In this new installment, Flame and Nico' s story followed the same premise than the previous ones, with a wonderful twist making it even better. I enjoyed a lot the hilarious situations, Nico's kindness and Flame's protectiveness. Witnessing how they solved a mystery trying not to hurt each other while in forced proximity was a treat. Another wonderful book on this series!

This book had so many positive reviews, my expectations were high (really high). I'm happy to say that they were met. Here you get all the feels: laughter, sexy times and so much more. I loved Nico..such a sweet, kind and truly kind character - without being a doormat. Flamey is also a sweetheart..I have a soft spot for grumpy but sweet heros. Ugh I could eat them both with a spoon! If you're looking for a funny, super sexy and intriguing romance with great writing and word building you need to read this!!

This novella is one of 12 by various authors all featuring the Marden's Magic Emporium, a magic shop that travels between universes/realms/realities.

I absolutely loved it. There is a whimsy that exists throughout every facet of the novel (I mean, the werewolf detective's name is "Raaf") and the premise is unique and interesting: an incubus born with love powers instead of lust powers gets handcuffed to a phoenix who can't fall in love. The resolution feels fresh and you are engaged throughout.

There is plenty of chemistry between Nico and Flame, and a whole host of interesting side characters also help keep things entertaining.

I was surprised twice by plot twists I wasn't expecting, but there are no red herrings; you just have to really pay attention to the clues, and even then, you might not catch up until Nico and Flame do.

I am definitely going to be searching out more by this author.

I received an ARC and have chosen to leave an honest review.

I loved Nico and Sir Flame.

They start as sort of ennemies, tied up together, but the way their relationship develops from there was sweet, funny and hot.

The mystery was very good and I didn't see the 'big baddy' until the end.
The ending was fun and perfect.

Overall, it was great and I really hope to see more of these two
