The failure on the part of OFQUAL, DfE and Ministers responsible to act in a timely manner in attempting to rectify the discrimination dealt by the standardisation alogorithm has irrecovably affected the future for these young people. Some University place are now 'off the table' for 2020, if everyone delays entry until 2021 opportunities will be further narrowed for ALL applicants. Time 'was' and still 'is' of the essence. Loughborough University closed off opportunities for UK & EU 2020 entrants one day after results day! While overseas students are still welcome. No surprise since they bring with them enhanced revenue for the University (3x as much as local students). August 21st will see Universities process overseas applications, an OFQUAL/ DfE remedy and reconciliations MUST be issued and DELIEVERED before this date. Otherwise I fully support this action and would like to raise the question of financial compensation for those young people affected.
As a teacher of further education I am outraged by what is happening to students and the unfair downgrading of their grades, especially those who have worked so hard and have been discriminated against because of their postcode, social background and historical performance of the school or education provider. For this government to dismiss teachers centre assessed grades is morally wrong. Teachers are best placed to judge their students' commitment, level of attainment and quality of work undertaken.
Once again it is the young people from deprived areas whose futures and opportunities are being denied.
I wholeheartedly support this pre-action protocol letter and hope, for those students who have been severely affected, that they have their grades overturned to ones befitting of their individual performance to enable them to have the opportunities and futures they deserve.
