https://nationalportfolioday.org/schedule/

All NPDA events are free and open to the public. Students and members of their communities are welcome to attend these events.

Registration is required for entry and must be completed online at the National Portfolio Day Association website: nationalportfolioday.org

SHOW YOUR WORK

Meet one on one with professional representatives of accredited colleges and universities and receive valuable feedback and guidance on your portfolio prior to submitting your application. No admission decisions or scholarship awards will be offered at National Portfolio Days. Some college and university representatives may accept your portfolio as the visual portion of your application. Others have restrictions that prohibit them from making a definitive portfolio decision at the time of your review.

If there is a particular school you are hoping to meet with, please visit that school’s website to learn more about the dates they will be available.

RECEIVE WORDS OF WISDOM

All representatives will be happy to discuss their specific programs of study and provide answers to questions about the availability of scholarships and financial aid. National Portfolio Day is not an examination or competition and is about an exchange of information. Representatives want to learn about you, your work, and your post-secondary plans, all while informing you about their college or university and application requirements.

Cinematic Arts
Artist in Residence Course with Mr. Raines
Juniors and seniors in this advanced video production course are learning how to write, shoot and edit informative, yet entertaining, video content for a possible school television show. The students have already produced narrative style and digital art-focused 20-second pieces, and they have just started their first one minute, documentary-style spotlight pieces about people, activities, and events at SCPA.
Video Production 1 & 3 With Mr. Raines
Video Production level one and level three 10th and 11th grade students join together in this course to learn valuable, real-world production skills through project-based learning. Video production level three students are teamed in groups with video production level one students to serve as leaders with their level one classmates as they work together on projects. Students are currently training on camera operation and editing, as they produce commercials, PSAs, and a school promotional video.
Broadcast Journalism with Mr. Raines
Students in this Visual Arts class are learning some of the basic skills they would need to be professional working artists in the multimedia industry, especially focusing on broadcast journalism. Students are exploring using technology to create, display, and share their digital artwork. These images are an example of the students’ “Creative Brain” assignment, an Adobe Photoshop project based on the documentary The Creative Brain with Dr. David Eagleman. “...we can take advantage of what it is to be human, to drink in the world and produce something, anything, that has never existed before.” Eagleman makes it clear that it’s innate in all of us — and it’s achievable.
Film Arts with Mr. Raines
Film Studies is a course intended to familiarize students with the history of film from its beginnings through the contemporary films of today. Students are learning to observe film with a critical eye so that they can analyze film as a visual art form. So far, students have focused on the key elements of a good story, documentary storytelling, movie acting, and comedy character analysis. A favorite documentary film the students analyzed recently was the Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy (2004): Behind the making of the Star Wars Trilogy.
Cinematic Arts with Mr. Raines
The seniors in this course are working their way through the entire process of producing short films. So far, all students in the course pitched their own original film idea, then six pitches were selected to move-on to the scriptwriting process. Students formed teams to write the six scripts, then presented the rough draft of their scripts to the rest of the class for critique and input. Revisions were made based on the class input, and final scripts were presented for consideration. Three films will now be selected to enter the production process. Students in Cinematic Arts are also working on an independent project, the Self-Introduction Video Essay, a college-entrance-based portfolio piece.
