Q1. What is AWS CloudFormation?
A1. AWS CloudFormation is a service that provides developers and businesses a simple way to create a collection of related AWS and third-party resources, and provision and manage them in an orderly and predictable fashion.
Q2. What happens when CloudFormation fails?
A2. After all the resources have been created, CloudFormation reports that your stack has been created. You can then start using the resources in your stack. If stack creation fails, CloudFormation rolls back your changes by deleting the resources that it created.
Q3. What are the Templates in CloudFormation?
A3. The template contains 9 major objects:
- Format Version: It helps to identify the capability of the template.
- Description: Arbitrary comments about the template can be included like purpose etc.
- Meta Data: Details of the resources in the template. It holds the implementation details.
- Parameters: it helps to input custom dynamic value inputs to the template. Enables to customize templates.
- Mapping: Helps to match a key to the corresponding value.
- Conditions: An optional one, where statements can be included based on conditions, where the inputs become the results of the conditional statement.
- Transform: An optional one defines one or more transforms to be used in the template. It is in the simple declarative AWS CloudFormation format.
- Resources: Declares the resources that are used in the template.
- Outputs: An optional one, to declare the output to point out on the console or to be reused in another template.

Q4. What is an AWS chef?
A4. A chef is a platform for automating your infrastructure on Amazon Web Services. Chef Automate, Chef’s Continuous Automation solution is tightly integrated with AWS. If you are using AWS now, Chef gives you a single, unified way to automate AWS services and resources.
Q5. What is the difference between chef and puppet in AWS OpsWorks?
A5. Chef and Puppet are automation platforms that allow you to use code to automate the configurations of your servers. OpsWorks lets you use Chef and Puppet to automate how servers are configured, deployed and managed across your Amazon EC2 instances or on-premises compute environments. In Puppet, you create manifests and modules, while in Chef you deal with recipes and cookbooks. Manifests and recipes usually describe single resources while modules and cookbooks describe the more general concepts.
Q6. What about the cost of Elastic beanstalk as compared to other services?
A6. There is no additional charge for Elastic Beanstalk. You pay for AWS resources (e.g. AWS EC2 instances or AWS S3 buckets) you have created to store and run your application. You only pay for what you use, there are no minimum fees and no upfront commitments.
