Botanic Gardens Activity Sheets

Check out the latest Garden Kids Easter School Holiday Activity Sheet this school holidays!

Search for 10 Easter eggs hidden throughout the activity sheet, crack the code, follow the “sh” words, work out where animals live, reveal a mystery drawing, follow the map and colour in the dragonfly.

Activity sheets are available from the brochure stand at Café 1928 or from the Discover Bundaberg website here. Café opening hours are 9am – 3pm, 7 days a week.

Introduction to the Great Barrier Reef

Bundaberg Regional Council is a proud member of the Reef Guardian Council Program run by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. Join the Reef Guardian Council virtual learning program these holidays, watch underwater videos, hear from experts and do some fun activities.

Learn about corals as the building blocks of the Great Barrier Reef and the role that various organisms play within the Reef community. Gain an understanding of the importance of various symbiotic relationships between organisms such as corals and their symbiotic algae, and anemones and anemonefish. Explore the simple actions that you can take regardless of where you live, to help protect the Great Barrier Reef and the animals that call it home.

Gain an understanding of the biology and adaptations of sea turtles, including their life cycles, breeding migrations, and feeding adaptations. Learn about how sea turtles are affected by human threats worldwide and what actions are being taken to help protect sea turtle populations.

The Great Barrier Reef is internationally recognised for its outstanding beauty and biological diversity. However the Reef and its inhabitants are under threat from a number of human impacts. Learn about the main threats facing the Great Barrier Reef and explore the simple actions and behaviours that can be adopted by everyone, regardless of where they live in the world, to help care for and protect the Great Barrier Reef and the animals that call it home.

Youth Week Colour Run

The Colour Run is being held as part of Bundaberg’s celebration of Youth Week for 2022, promoting social connectedness and participation in a safe open space in a post COVID world.

The course goes along the beautiful Bargara foreshore, back to the turtle trail ending on the oval of the Bargara Sports Complex, going through 4 different colour stations with the final multi-coloured station at the finish line.

The finish line activities include market and local service provider stalls with some fun activities to get stuck into, plus food trucks, coffee and music. These activities are open to the public!

Cost: $10 pp to take part in the colour run. All ticket holders can catch Duffy’s Buses to and from Bargara on the day for FREE.

Rockpool Ramble

As part of the Reef Guardian Council program Bundaberg Regional Council are hosting a Rock Pool Ramble with local marine expert Natalie Lobartolo from Reef Connect.  

Join us to explore the rocky shores at Bargara. Search for sea snails, barnacles and sea cucumbers hidden amongst the rocks and learn about this valuable coastal environment.
