Northern BC is like nothing you've ever experienced - big mountains, rich culture & more bears than people!

Bear Mountaineering

Welcome to the Burnie Glacier Chalet. Far north and west of all other British Columbia lodges, we have been a hot tip for years. And we intend to stay so! We are happy to announce thatin 2022 we did a major renovation and upgrade to the lodge. We have a beautiful new and larger dining area. The kitchen is all new and bigger. There will be only two guests to a room now. And the boot dryer works like a charm.

Please have a look around. The calendar is usually quite accurate, but please contact us if the week you want is full. The 2025 season is mostly booked, but please check the calendar. There are sometimes openings, and things can change.  Watch the video, send us a message, and soon we may be skiing or climbing together. The mountains are always waiting.

Winter 2025 and 2026

It does feel strange to book so far into the future, but that is what we are doing now. There is still quite a bit open, but the bookings are coming in. Please write or call to secure your spot. The calendar gets updated regularly.

My husband and I did the second half of the Donjek River route with Christoph Dietzfelbinger of Bear Mountaineering in 2010. This was our first trip with him but not our last, as we intend to do another in 2011. The trip was a complete success thanks to his expertise, organization, and personality. The equipment and food were great, his enthusiasm and experience inspire confidence, and Christoph is a charming and interesting fireside companion. We both unreservedly recommend Bear Mountaineering to anyone wanting guided wilderness travel in western Canada.
