My students need headphones to use with our new curriculum which has an amazing online platform so that they can receive differentiated lessons! To continue building executive functioning skills my students also need colored printer paper!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I was once a student and am now a teacher in the high-poverty and high-crime neighborhood of Watts, CA.

I see in my students a willingness to learn and explore, but the unavailability of resources adds to the rhetoric of "deficit," of which they know all too well.

Through DonorsChoose and other generous programs, I have been able to start filling in some resource gaps in my classroom. However, the gap is so wide, there is still so much more needed.

My Project

My students have just started using a new curriculum which has an AMAZING online platform. Not only are they building their English skills, overcoming their disabilities, and building executive functioning, but they are learning to become efficient 21st century citizens too!

With the new curriculum, they can each receive an individual and differentiated lesson but they need headphones to access the materials without disturbing each other.

The colored paper is another way my students are building their executive functioning skills. I pay for the ink myself and my students have self designated certain colors for certain tasks to help them organize (yellow for graphic organizers, pink for homework, blue for skill practice, etc.).
