Here's a solid hands-on article describing WHY to use an API Management layer in front of generative #AI APIs, and also HOW to do it with #Apigee. For example, in Google Cloud you can host the Text Bison Foundational model, and configure it to accept prompts to generate text. But you don't want to allow anyone and everyone to submit an unlimited number of requests. You'll want some authentication. Maybe rate limiting. And you also want API metrics, to understand who's calling, and how often. API Management lets you do that. This particular article talks about using API Management to enable a hackathon. But of course it makes sense to apply these controls whether you're just starting out and hosting hackathons, or if you're exposing your AI-enabled tools to partners or other teams as part of a commercial digital partnership. #APImanagement is a key, necessary complement to generative AI.
