1. The Scrunch Test
The scrunch test is basically you take the garment that you wish to purchase & scrunch it up. Check if the fabric stays wrinkly or if it doesn’t. Just ball a part of the clothing & squeeze it in your hands. Generally, if it can not handle being squashed by your hands for a few seconds, it is most likely to fail you in the coming months.
2. The Pull Test
Do not go ahead & pull too hard until you wreck the garment. However, gently tug on the fabric & then release the material. If it is of higher quality fabric, it’ll retain its shape. If not, it might look altered or start to hang loose. If this happens, you know that it’s not the right piece of garment for you.
3. Check the Zippers
If the piece of apparel you are purchasing has zippers, try to check for those with enclosed zippers. Exposed zippers generally suggest a cheaply made garment. Exposed zippers will also mean that once you put them in the wash, they can get spoilt much easier because it’ll be exposed to the tumbling & rotating of the washing machine. It just doesn’t allow for the longevity of your garment.
4. Check the Labels
Check the label for washing instructions. However, you should also use them to check the type of material used to create that awesome t-shirt you are thinking of purchasing. Most natural fibers like cotton, silk, and wool are more likely to deal with the wear and tear much better. Natural fibers will usually last longer as compared to synthetic, human-made materials like microfibre of polyester.
5. Check The Seams
A high-quality garment would usually have matching threading. Top-quality stitching should always be straight & in an identical thread. This shows consistency & attention to detail in the garment. The higher the number of stitches per inch, the quality would be better.
