RTA NEXT GEN - BUS LINE CHANGES. 81 ELIMINATED. INPUT NEEDED!

NEXT GEN RTA is working to improve the connections between Cleveland neighborhoods by giving riders more one seat-trips, cross-town routes, and shorter wait times. There are five proposed bus routes that go through the Ohio City neighborhood.  Major changes include the elimination of Route 79 and 81.  The new routes will eliminate all direct service to and from Lakeview Estates, while also eliminating direct route from Ohio City to Steelyard Commons.

You can give feedback to RTA by attending one of their many Facebook Live Meetings (times listed below), by visiting their 24/7 interactive RTA Next Gen website here, or contacting the RTA Board of Trustees at 216-356-3120 or gcrtaboard@gcrta.org.

You can also contact your local elected officials: Ward 3 Councilman Kerry McCormack at 216-664-2691 or kmccormack@clevelandcitycouncil.org/District 7 County Councilwoman Yvonne Conwell at 216-698-2017 or yconwell@cuyahogacounty.us

OHIO CITY TURNED OUT TO VOTE

Voting is an important right that is afforded to nearly all citizens in this country. Exercising that is one of the most important civil actions that we as individuals can take. On Election Day this year 57.6% of registered voters in Ward 3 cast their votes,  up from 52.92% in the 2016 Election. Ohio City Residents and OCI Staff members got involved in a number of ways beyond voting, including providing coffee and snacks for poll workers and voters, organizing and volunteering with VoterDrive Cle (link it if you can to voterdrivecle.com), which provided over 200 rides to voters who may not have been able to vote otherwise, signing up and taking time off work to be poll workers, and many more things. We would love to hear your stories about voting and volunteering this election season, so that we can share just how important to voting is to Ohio City. Please share your stories with us by sending them to Chad Biggers at cbiggers@ohiocity.org. Thank you all, and Great Job Ohio City and Ward 3!

OHIO CITY BLACK LIVES MATTER FLAGS ARE IN

If you pre-ordered a Ohio City Black Lives Matter flag, they have been sent out to your address.  If you would to purchase a Ohio City BLM flag or our other two flags (Standard & Pride 2.0), you can purchase them here.  Proceeds from our Ohio City BLM flag are being specifically directed to a racial equity and inclusion fund supporting our efforts in this critical work.

Lastly, we know that in a neighborhood with a 39% poverty rate, that not all amongst us can afford something that seems as trivial as a flag. For the first time, we are allowing individuals to buy a flag that supports our work and have it donated to low income residents in our community. Neighborhood pride should not be a point of privilege. To support our work, and buy or donate a flag, click here.

HAVE A COFFEE & CONVERSATION WITH US

Let's meet over coffee (virtually, of course)! Over the next few months, Ohio City Inc is looking to connect with 100 residents and community stakeholders who want to share their story. In an effort to learn more about the people who make up Ohio City, we need to hear from you.

These brief yet informative conversations will better inform us on how to connect residents to each other and to resources by recording and sharing your perspectives on this community. You, of course, have the option to share your story with us and the community anonymously or openly.

If you are willing to meet with Chad or Whitnye for 30 minutes, or know someone we should meet with, over a cup of coffee (or tea... or the beverage of your choice), please message, call, or email us.

We look forward to meeting you! Chad - cbiggers@ohiocity.org440-207-0568
