Save the Cheshire Cat!

An interactive intrigue by Marco Vallarino

Can you find the feline before it's turned into a fur coat?

Save the Cheshire Cat! is a comedy text adventure written in Inform 6.

How it begins

This year too you decided to go for a walk to the book fair that takes place in the old town centre. After visiting the stand of the "Ludo Ergo Sum" club run by your friends Mario e Luigi, on the east side of the main street, you headed to Miky Bar to drink a beer to their health.

You're still having your drink when Mario bursts into the bar and says that the Cheshire Cat is missing! It is an unruly feline that meows all the time and pees and poos everywhere. But it is also the mascot of the club: without it your friends can't organize any other event, so it's a matter of life and death to find it as soon as possible.

How to play

Every command has to be inserted with the syntax verb + noun: >get beer, >open door, >examine jacket, >wear hat, >ask girl about cat, >hit vandal...

Credits

My name is Marco Vallarino, I was born in 1977 in Imperia, where I live. I work as a journalist at the newspaper Il Secolo XIX. I've written novels and short stories and I've published many books, but my real passion has always been the interactive fiction. Since I was a kid, I've played tons of text adventures, in Italian and in English, and I've also tried writing some games, using first Qbasic and later on Inform.

My works Darkiss, Ayon, Enigma have been pubished by important Italian computer magazines, such as Win Magazine, Computer Bild, Giochi per il Mio Computer, Linux Pro and Idea Web. They've also had a good 'success' on the web, with over 50.000 downloads and tons of enthusiastic feedback from Italian players.

Save the Cheshire Cat! is my first attempt to translate a game from Italian to English, with a little help from my friend Emilio Audissino, who works as a researcher at University of Southampton, so be kind to it :)

It's a mini text adventure about a missing cat; it's very simple and short, but I hope it's also funny.

I'll be glad if you let me know what you think about the style and the design of the game, writing to marcovallarino @ hotmail.com. If you want to view the source code, just ask for it.

I'm also on Facebook, Twitter and Google+.
