The Thoroughbred Aftercare Programme (TAP) has a clear and concise mission to support the transition of thoroughbred horses, bred for racing, into riding horses for both the competitive and non-competitive rider to enjoy.
Mission:
We offer an extensive range of training content available for both viewing online and as downloads. This is available to view once you have signed up with us which is absolutely free. In addition to the online resource, videos and document library we offer regional subsidised training for anyone with a thoroughbred to come along to. The document library can be found on the link below and subsidised regional training from the link in the section below.
Through TAP, those who have taken on an ex-racehorse can access a comprehensive educational programme that delivers support to match aspirations. The programme assists riders understand their horse, progress through the transitional stages of racehorse to riding horse including lunging, hacking, schooling and, if it is their ambition, to develop through to a discipline specific competition structure.
With an estimated 35,000 former racehorses in the UK alone, and on average 7,000 horses retiring from British racing each year, TAP focuses on the correct re-training of these horses to enable them to go on to become successful riding horses. TAP is a tremendous industry-wide force for good by ensuring ex-racehorses have the chance to step into their future lives as seamlessly as possible.
