12 OTT Platforms to Use While Commuting in India

1. Netflix — The streaming giant made its way into the Indian market back in 2016. They are well-known for their Netflix Original shows and movies. However, they have a very large collection of other content too. You can find content in English, Tamil, Malayalam and a number of regional and foreign languages. It is on the more expensive side but their Mobile plan at Rs 199/month is great for commuters.

Rs 199 for their Mobile plan (1 mobile device).
Rs 499 for the Basic plan (Single device, not limited to phones and tablets).
Rs 649 for their Standard plan for up to 2 screens at a time.
Rs 799 for their Premium plan for up to 4 screens at a time.

 

2. Amazon Prime VideoPrime Video also came to India back in 2016. It has some great original shows and movies that audiences have loved. They definitely have more choices when it comes to local and regional language content. A great benefit of their membership is that it’s a part of an Amazon Prime membership. This means you get a bunch of other benefits like Prime delivery on Amazon, access to Amazon Music and more!

How much does it cost?
Rs 329 for three months, and Rs 999 for a year.

 

3. Disney+ HotstarStarted in 2015 as Hotstar, and became Disney+ Hotstar in 2019. Definitely one of the most popular OTT platforms in India. They have some content on their app that you can access for free. Then they have two types of membership — VIP and Premium. VIP gives you access to dubbed versions of Disney+ and Marvel content, Hotstar Specials and Star Serials. The VIP subscription does have ads. The Premium subscription gives you access to all content on the platform, and completely ad-free. This also includes Disney+ and Marvel content in English.

How much does it cost?
Rs 399/year for the VIP plan.
Rs 299/month and Rs 1499/year for the Premium plan.

 

4. SonyLIVSonyLIV also creates its own original content, in addition to other movies and shows they have on their platform. Many of its subscribers enjoy shows like Comedy Nights with Kapil and Kaun Banega Crorepati. The platform has gained popularity only recently and audiences are waiting for more of its original content. They also have a subscription plan that caters entirely to WWE fans.

How much does it cost?
Rs 299/year if you’d only like to access WWE content.
Rs 399/year for access to LIVE Tv shows only.
For their Premium subscription, Rs 299 for 1 month, Rs 699 for 6 months and Rs 999 for a year.

 

5. ZEE5Zee5 gives you access to over a 1000 movie titles, and a number of LIVE TV channels as well. You can watch some content for free as well, but with ads. This is another great option for regional and local language content.

How much does it cost?
Rs 299 for a 3 month plan and Rs 499 for a year.

 

6. VootThis OTT platform gives you access to all content from Viacom 18 TV channels. These channels include MTC, Nickelodeon, Colors and VH1. In addition to that, you have access to Voot original content too. With a lot of exclusive content for kids, it’s a great option for parent. 

How much does it cost?
Rs 299 for a year.

 

7. MX PlayerThe only OTT player on this list that’s absolutely free. It has ads, but there are no subscription plans. Yet, they still give you access to a lot of content. They also have original Hindi content, and content in regional languages too. Some of their original content has really performed well with audiences.

How much does it cost?
Nothing. It’s totally free. However, you will see ads.

 

8. ALT BalajiDominated mostly by original content, you can find a number of interesting web series and movies. They also have plenty for those who want a good laugh. Not everything they put out does great with audiences, but they’ve made some hits too. Their subscriptions are quite reasonable.

How much does it cost?
Rs 100 for 3 months, Rs 180 for 6 months and Rs 300 for a year.

 

9. HoichoiAnother platform that’s focused on creating original content. Specifically, Bengali content. So, for those looking for Bengali shows and movies specifically, it’s a great option. You can also listen to Bengali music. However, the subscription cost is on the higher side. 

How much does it cost?
Rs 599 for streaming on a single screen.
Rs 899 for streaming on two screens.

 

10. AhaThis is the OTT platform for Telugu content. From movies, to shows, to web series, they’ve got it all. It’s also gained a lot of popularity for the quality of content for its audience and variety. And of course, their subscription plans are also quite reasonable.

How much does it cost?
Rs 149 for 3 months and Rs 399 for a year.

 

11. Sun NXTSun NXT is a great OTT platform for Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali and Kannada content. They have a lot of content that you can watch for free, with ads. And the rest, you can opt for their subscription plans. The most reasonable plan is their 1 month plan with ads.

How much does it cost?
Rs 50 for a 30 day subscription with ads.
Rs 130 for a 90 day subscription without ads.
Rs 480 for a one year subscription with no ads.

 

12. Eros NowEros Now offers movies, shows and music. Plus, they have their original cotnent too. Users can find content in Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, English and more.

How much does it cost?
Rs 49 if you pay monthly.
Rs 79 if you pay quarterly.
And Rs 399 if you pay yearly.

 

Pro Tip: Check if your internet or network provider has any offers on any of these, or if they offer you a free membership. Companies like Airtel, Jio, ACT, Tata Sky, and others have tied up with OTT platforms and offer a variety of deals.
